SUMMARY:CANCELLED: 2020 Teacher Conservation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 NOTICE:\n\n\nDue to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 health crisis\, the Georgia Teacher Conservation Workshop\, the Georgia Forestry Commission\, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources\, and its partnering agencies have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Georgia Teacher Conservation Workshop.\n\n\n \n\n\nThe 2020 gathering would have been the 16th annual event and we were looking forward to creating many meaningful moments for our participants\, educators\, staff\, and volunteers. Unfortunately\, to insure the safety of everyone involved\, the workshop scheduled for June 15-19 will not take place.\n\n\n \n\n\nThe good news is the GA Teacher Conservation Workshop advisory committee has already begun work on the 2021 Workshop! We remain committed to providing an experience for Georgia’s educators to gain content knowledge and application in forestry\, wildlife\, and natural resources in Georgia. We look forward to having a full Workshop next year!\n\n\n \n\n\nIf you have questions or concerns regarding the program\, please visit http://gatcw.org/ or feel free to message us on Facebook.\n\n  \n \nThe Teacher Conservation Workshop (TCW) is a week-long professional development event that uses the forest as a window to environmental education. Activities are led by foresters\, biologists\, educators\, and industry professionals. This interdisciplinary workshop focuses on the environmental\, economic\, and social benefits of Georgia’s forestry and wildlife communities. Sessions take place offsite and mostly outdoors in the forest and manufacturing facilities within a 2-hour radius of Charlie Elliott. Sessions demonstrate the cycle of growing trees and managing for wildlife\, water and recreation. \nThe TCW emphasizes the importance of conservation of natural resources\, with special attention given to Georgia’s wildlife\, forests\, forest products and water. Participants will learn hands-on practical exercises that can supplement their classroom curricula and student projects. Certification in Projects Learning Tree\, WET\, and WILD is awarded at the completion of the workshop.

SUMMARY:Cancelled: Family Event: A Day in the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Notification of Cancellation for Gaskins Forest Education Center: \nWe have decided to cancel Day in the Woods event\, scheduled for Saturday April 18\, 2020. We have already selected the date for next year – April 17\, 2021. Save the Date!!! \nWe had lots of discussion about pros and cons. Of course\, our prime concern is the safety of presenters and attendees. Activities at our event are very interactive and involve sharing materials and equipment – impossible to use social distancing. In addition\, quite a few of our presenters put a lot of advance effort into planning their activities. It seemed appropriate to make a decision now rather than later – ahead of my usual news release blitz a month before the event. \nIf you have already shared information about the event with people in your network\, we will be glad if you’ll help us share this cancellation update. \n____________________________________________________________ \nA Day in the Woods 2020 is slated for Saturday\, April 18. Bring the family out to Gaskins Forest Education Center for an afternoon filled with activities including wildlife\, archery and BB ranges\, forestry and native plants\, fire demonstrations\, traditional crafts\, historical demonstrations\, samples of game meat and much more! \nThis is a free event\, open to all! \nA Day in the Woods_2020
